Pastor and Dean of the Cathedral

Rev. Fr. Nektarios Najjar was born and raised in Lebanon.

He Graduated from the St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology at the University of Balamand, Lebanon, in 2012.

Fr. Nektarios is married to Kh. Miray since 2013. They have 2 children: Agapy and Maximos.

While working for the Faculty of theology in Balamand, Fr. Nektarios was ordained to the Holy Diaconate (2014) by His Eminence Metropolitan GEORGE Khodr of Mount Lebanon.

In June 2015, he was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Eminence Metropolitan JOSEPH and assigned to the Cathedral as an Assistant Pastor in August 2015.

Fr. Nektarios was appointed Pastor and Dean of the Cathedral on December 1, 2019.

Fr. Nektarios is fluent in Arabic and English; and can read and communicate in French and Greek.


Rev. Deacon Yakoub Daoura was born and raised in Lebanon.

He is a graduate of the St. Stephen’s Certificate Program at the Antiochian House of Studies.

Dn. Yakoub is married to diakonissa Caty since 2006. They have one daughter: Léa.

He works for the University of Ottawa, and was ordained to the Holy Diaconate on March 31st, 2019 by His Grace Bishop ALEXANDER.

Dn. Yakoub is fluent in Arabic, French, and English.

Retired Clergy

The Very Rev. Fr. Ghattas Hajal, Pastor Emeritus, served as Pastor and Dean of St. Elias Cathedral from 1992 to the day of his retirement, December 1st, 2019.

Among many accomplishments, including leading the parish to paying off the mortgage and beautifying the Cathedral, Fr. Ghattas was inducted into the Order of the Cedar by the Lebanese President His Excelency Michel Aoun, Was granted the Antonian medal by Metropolitan JOSEPH, received the City of Ottawa City builder’s award and the Canadian Senate 150th Anniversary medal.
